S-26 Cover Baby Contest

S-26 seeks to crown the most adorable child in Singapore!

How to participate?
Come on down to our booth No. C14 during The Kids Academy 2011 and have your child’s photo taken by well-known child photographer Sean Lau. The photos taken will be submitted for judging.

* The prize presentation for the winners will be held on the final day on 27th March 2011 at 5.30pm.

Memory Challenge

Here’s your chance to show off your outstanding memory power and win some exciting prizes! Make your school proud by joining our interactive FUNtastic™ Memory Workshop that will teach you memory techniques to help you excel in school easily!

This Memory Challenge is open to all Primary schools, for children ages 10 to 12 years old. Each school can send up to 5 teams with 3 members each.

As a participant, you will be entitled to an interactive FUNtastic™ Memory Workshop conducted by Mind Edge on 11th March 2011 at SPH News Centre, where you will learn the unique memory techniques required to help you succeed in this challenge and excel in school!

Winners will be determined by the accuracy of their memory as well as speed in answering.

FUNtastic ™ Memory Workshop

Venue: SPH News Centre, 1000 Toa Payoh North (5 min walk from Braddell MRT)

Date and Time: 11th March 2011, 3.30pm - 5.30pm

Challenge Dates

Friday, 25th March 2011 – Qualifying Rounds

Challenge Details:

Round One - "Random Words"
Participants will be shown 100 random words to recall
Round Two - "Crazy linking"
Participants will be shown 30 pairs of pictures to recall

Other Info:

Participation is open for children ages 10 to 12 years old
Participation is open to all schools to send teams of 3 members each with a maximum of 5 teams per school
Teams are to consist of 3 members each with a maximum of 5 teams per school
Both rounds will be held back-to-back and each team will be given 15 minutes to recall all items
Results will be announced at the end of the qualifying round and the top 10 qualifying teams will proceed to the semi-finals

Saturday, 26th March 2011 – Semi-Finals (10 Teams)

Challenge Details:

Round One - "Historical Future Dates": Participants will be required to recall 50 fictitious events linked to each individual date
Round Two - "Funtastic Faces": Participants will be required to recall 30 names linked to each individual face

Other Info:

Both rounds would be held back-to-back and each team would be given 15 minutes to recall all items
Results of the qualifying round will be announced at the end of semi-finals and the top 5 qualifying teams will proceed to the finals

Sunday, 27th March 2011 – Finals (5 Teams)

Challenge Details:

Round One - "Random Places": Participants will be required to recall 30 places linked to each individual fictitious name
Round Two - "Random Numbers": Participants will be required to recall 50 pairs of random numbers

Other Info:

3 teams will be selected as the top prize winners

Math Mastery™ Competition

Do you have what it takes to be the top Mathematician among your peers? If you’re good in Maths and love solving non-routine questions, join the Math Mastery™ Competition today! Rise to the challenge and win attractive prizes! This Competition is open to all students ages 9 to 12 years old.

In the preliminary round, participants are required to solve 30 questions in 30 minutes. The top 10 finalists with the most number of accurate answers within the shortest time of answering will be able to pit their heuristics skills in the Final Round, which will be held on 25th March 2011, 4.00pm - 5.00pm (For Primary 3 and 4) and 26th March 2011, 12.30am - 1.30pm (For Primary 5 and 6) at The Kidz Academy.

Contest details:
The contest is open to all Primary School students and contains two categories:

Primary 3 and 4
Primary 5 and 6

Length of Composition:

Primary 3 and 4: 200 – 300 words
Primary 5 and 6: 300 – 400 words

Judging Criteria:
Entries will be judged by a panel of education professionals based on the following criteria:

Creativity: Ability to weave the given items into the storyline in a creative manner
Interesting and original storyline: Ability to use original ideas to compose the story
Development of plot: Clear narrative structure in the story
Writing skills: Use of effective vocabulary, varied sentences and effective style of writing
Command of language: Grammatical and spelling accuracy

Submissions will be displayed during the 3 days The Kidz Academy event held at Suntec.
